How to prepare:
Cut the cleaned oranges with peel in thin slices and remove the pits.
Arrange the slices in a wide heat resistant bowl or pan and add water till the slices are exactly covered.
Let rest an hour.
Add sugar, vinegar, cinnamon sticks and cloves. Bring to a boil and simmer for 15 minutes. Skim foam if necessary. Remove the orange slices with a skimmer
from the pan and arrange in cleaned jars. Place slices along the sides of the jars too.
Reduce the vinegar/sugar mixture to jelly:
a drop on a cold plate gets jelly-like.
Remove the cinnamon and cloves and fill up the jars with the boiling mixture.
Close the jars with canning cellophane. Label with date and contents.
Preservable for 1 year.
Orange pickles are a great gift.
